3F Industries makes first sustainable palm oil purchase
August 09, 2018
3F Industries, one of India’s largest edible oil importer and producers, has made its first purchase of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified sustainable palm oil.
The company purchased 1,100 tonnes of RSPO certified palm oil products as part of its July 2018 oil purchases, the RSPO said on 31 July.
“Today, there is an ever-urgent need and growing global concern for commodities to be produced without causing harm to the environment or society. It is essential that natural assets are nurtured while fostering economic growth,” said 3F director and CEO Sushil Goenka.
He called for the industry to work together to improve economic and social well-being in Indian communities.
RSPO India representative Kamal Prakash Seth said 3F was making good of its commitment in June to move towards the use of sustainable palm oil.
“3F Industries has pledged to procure certified sustainable palm oil and its derivatives. They are also proactively creating awareness about sustainable palm oil among Indian businesses and consumers,” said Kamal
He added that with these kinds of “practical measures”, Indian businesses could lead the way and play an active role in meeting global sustainable development goals.
3F Industries operates in more than 10 countries, importing, producing and processing 200,000 tonnes/year of palm oil, and has been a member of RSPO since 2014.
