Global agribusiness and food company Bunge’s Lecithin & Specialty Ingredients (SLI) division signed a European distribution agreement on 9 May with chemical and ingredient distributor Univar Netherlands BV.
Under the agreement, Univar will distribute Bunge’s BungeMaxx lecithin brand to seven European countries, including Switzerland, the UK, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
The BungeMaxx ingredient range included in the deal consisted of premium lecithin produced from soya, rapeseed and sunflower seeds for confectionery, bakery, oil and fats applications, Univar said.
“Through market research, we’ve seen that Italy and the UK have a strong number of product launches containing these lecithin ingredients. However, the Nordic region and Switzerland are close behind them and so we feel that these specific regions are optimal for growth in this sector,” Univar product and marketing coordinator Abigail Dillon told FoodNavigator.
Jochem Dettmers, Europe, Middle East and Africa sales director at Bunge SLI, said the Univar network’s “extensive reach” would enable Bunge to penetrate the European market more effectively.
He added in a statement that the companies’ “combined strengths” would offer potential clients a combination of “quality, traceability and service”.
Univar also signed in early 2017 an agreement with US algae product company TerraVia to distribute its microalgae products in the EU, FoodNavigator wrote.
