Bulk handler and distributor of food grains Adani Agri Logistics (AALL) is set to build silo complexes at four locations in India after signing an agreement with the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Maritime Gateway reported.

As part of the agreement, AAL would develop and operate modern silo complexes in Kanpur, Gonda and Sandila in Uttar Pradesh province, and Katihar in Bihar state as part of a government plan to modernise India’s storage infrastructure, creating a total silo storage capacity of 3,500 tonnes (3.5 lakh) tonnes, the 17 October report said.

According to the AAL website, the key feature of the project is that the entire handling of food grains, from delivery at base depots, to cleaning and drying and storage and transportation to field depots is completed in bulk.

The storage units are FCI procurement centres, AAL said, where farmers delivered their produce directly.

The project would include silo complexes with and without container depots.

Won through a competitive bidding process, the project would benefit the farmers of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and also support general consumers and PDS (Public Distribution System) beneficiaries, Adani Agri Logistics was quoted as saying in a statement.

Farmer currently had to wait for two to three days while their agricultural produce made its way through the traditional farm–to–mandi procurement chain, the report said, but the project would reduce the processing time to one to two hours.

With the addition of 3,500 tonnes (3.5 lakh tonnes) of storage capacity, AAL would now offer a total silo storage capacity of 15,250 tonnes (15.25 lakh tonnes) in 24 locations, Maritime Gateway wrote.

AAL is a wholly-owned unit of Adani Logistics, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Indian private port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ).
