Clean fuels company Axens is set to provide technology for hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO)/sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects in Portugal, Malaysia and Pakistan.

The Paris-headquartered company said it would be supplying its Vegan technology to new projects by Portuguese multinational energy corporation Galp, Malaysian energy player LOKEN and renewable energy company SAFCO Venture Holdings.

The agreement with the three companies would include the supply of the technology licence, catalysts, proprietary equipment, training and technical services, Axens said on 8 January.

In addition, it expected three further new Vegan units to be started up this year.

Axens said its Vegan process could process a wide range of feedstocks such as vegetable oils, animal fats, tall oil and used cooking oil (UCO) to produce SAF or HVO and could be applied in both standalone and integrated refineries.

Galp comprises more than 100 companies involved in oil and natural gas supply, covering exploration and production, refining, trading and logistics.

LOKEN – also known as Lokal Energy – is a subsidiary of Barium Selat Group produces biofuels derived from local waste materials. The company is developing one of the first renewable complexes in South-East Asia, the Carbon Cycle Complex.

SAFCO operates and owns biofuel facilities in Pakistan where it is developing an SAF facility.
