Thai energy company Bangchak Group has started production at the country’s first 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility.
Located at Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery, the unit produced hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids synthetic paraffinic kerosene (HEFA-SPK) a type of SAF produced from renewable feedstocks such as used cooking oil (UCO), the company said on 18 May.
At the time of the report, the company said it was scheduled to export its first SAF shipment on 19 May.
In addition to constructing the SAF plant – part of the Group’s Net Zero plan – the company said it had also set up an UCO ecosystem covering collection, feedstock management and conversion into SAF and hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO).
Operated by Bangchak Group affiliate BSGF Company Limited, the facility had an initial production capacity of 1M litres/day, Bangchak said in a previous statement on 29 April.
