Brazilian exports soyabeans reached a record level in September, with China as the main buyer, according to official customs data reported by AgriCensus.
With 5.1M tonnes of soyabeans shipped to China in September – representing 79% of total soyabean exports shipped that month – the volume was also a record for Brazil’s exports to the country for that time of the year, the 10 October report said.
Total September exports of 6.4M tonnes were also a record for September, more than 1.5M tonnes higher than the previous 2021 record.
Since January, Brazil had shipped 87.3M tonnes of soyabeans, 16.8M tonnes more than in the previous year, AgriCensus wrote.
China imported 61.7M tonnes Brazilian soyabeans in the first three quarters of the year, with other important destinations including Spain (2.7M tonnes), Thailand (2.2M tonnes), Turkey (1.7M tonnes), Mexico (1.6M tonnes) and Iran (1.5M tonnes).
Mexican imports of Brazilian soyabeans surged – despite its proximity to the USA – due to the South American country’s price competitiveness, with year-to-date volumes more than double last year’s total, the report said.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s soyabean meal and soyabean oil exports were lower in September as some crushing plants had halted production for scheduled maintenance works, reducing domestic availability.
Soyabean meal exports dropped from 2.4M tonnes in August to 1.7M tonnes while soyabean oil shipments declined from 201,078 tonnes that month to 154,667 tonnes in September.
However, year-to-date soyabean meal shipments at 17M tonnes were 1M tonnes higher than the previous year while total soyabean oil shipments were slightly higher at 2M tonnes compared with 1.9M tonnes the previous year.
The main importers of Brazil’s soyabean oil since the beginning of the year were India (1.1M tonnes), China (210,278 tonnes) and Bangladesh (201,378 tonnes).
Leading destinations for soyabean meal exports in the first three quarters of the year were Thailand (2.6M tonnes), Indonesia (2.6M tonnes), the Netherlands (1.4M tonnes), Germany (1.3M tonnes), Vietnam (1.2M tonnes) and France (1.1M tonnes).
