The Brazilian state of Mato Grosso has produced its largest recorded soyabean crop, AgriCensus reported the state’s agriculture institute IMEA as saying.
Mato Grosso’s soyabean yields totalled 59.3 bags/ha in 2021/22, according to IMEA, representing a 3.3% year-on-year increase.
Based on the latest figures, the state produced 40.9M tonnes of soyabeans in 2021/22, IMEA said, an all-time high and 13.3% higher year-on-year.
IMEA used satellite images to calculate the total soyabean planted area for 2021/22 at 11.5M ha, a 5.1% increase compared to its previous estimate released in early-May and a 9.7% jump compared to the previous marketing year.
High prices and robust demand were driving the increase in soyabean planted area, IMEA said.
Meanwhile, the 2021/22 corn estimates were reduced by 0.5% to 39.2M tonnes, according to IMEA’s forecasts reported by AgriCensus on 7 June.
