Global agribusiness giant Cargill’s canola processing facility in Regina, Saskatchewan, is now operational.

The facility would increase local demand and enable more of the crop to be processed domestically, the company said on 21 April.

Serving canola farmers in Saskatchewan and Western Manitoba, Cargill said the facility would have capacity to process 1M tonnes/year of canola.

“This facility strengthens our ability to connect Canadian farmers to growing global demand for food and renewable fuels,” said Jeff Vassart, president of Cargill Canada.

“By expanding processing capacity in Saskatchewan, we’re creating more opportunities for farmers while helping ensure Canada remains competitive in rapidly evolving global markets.”

Located at Saskatchewan’s Global Transportation Hub, the facility provided rail access to domestic and export markets, the company said.

According to the Canola Council of Canada, the country is the world’s leading canola seed producer and exporter, harvesting an estimated 21.8M tonnes in 2025.

Producing 12.2M tonnes, Saskatchewan was the top province, with Alberta in second place producing 6.3M tonnes.
