Leading independent oils and fats storage and logistics company Chane has partnered with Peel Ports Group to expand bulk liquid capacity at the Port of Liverpool, UK.

Chane had plans for significant expansion at the port – its main UK terminal – by adding capacity to increase the range and types of bulk liquid products handled, Peel Ports Group said on 14 May.

The agreement came amid sustained demand growth in liquid bulk commodities, driven by changing energy requirements, increased biofuel adoption and continued reliance on specialist chemical and food-grade logistics solutions, Peel Ports Group said.

The companies would work together to jointly target new and existing importers and exporters, with a focus on strengthening commercial outreach across key industrial sectors.

“Liquid bulk is becoming an increasingly important aspect of our cargo offering at the Port of Liverpool,” said Phil Hall, port director at the Port of Liverpool (Peel Ports Group).

Chane’s terminal manager Andrew Shaw said the partnership combined its specialist expertise with Peel Ports Group’s extensive infrastructure and strategic locations.

Chane handles a broad range of liquid bulk products through its European storage and logistics terminals across the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal and Poland, with a total capacity of over 5.6M m³.

The company is active in vegetable oils and animal fats; used cooking oil (UCO) and derivatives; glycerine; base oils; non-hazardous chemicals; pharmaceutical liquids; renewable and biofuel feedstocks; clean fuels and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) related products; and food and feed liquids. The company also provides infrastructure for heated liquid storage, blending and homogenisation, petrochemical and renewable fuel distillation; and rail, truck, barge and pipeline logistics.

Peel Ports Group is the UK’s second largest port operator, owning and operating six of the UK’s most important ports (Liverpool, Heysham, Manchester Ship Canal, Medway (Sheerness / Chatham), Clydeport and the Port of East Anglia). It also operates a container terminal in Dublin and owns BG Freight Line, which provides short sea container services between the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe and Peel Ports Logistics, one of the UK’s leading shipping and freight forwarders.

The Liverpool-headquartered company handles approximately 70M tonnes/year of cargo and 14% of the total UK major ports traffic flows through ports operated by the group.
