Global agribusiness COFCO International has started making deliveries from Brazil to China under its certified sustainable soyabean agreement with leading international milk producer Mengniu Group.

COFCO loaded 69,000 tonnes of soyabeans at its new STS11 terminal in Santos on 28 May for delivery to two Mengniu subsidiaries in China.

The delivery was part of its agreement with Mengniu, announced in February, to supply 1.5M tonnes of deforestation- and conversion-free (DCF) certified soyabeans between 2025 and 2030.

The two subsidiaries – Modern Farming and China Shengmu Organic Milk – manufacture and distribute dairy products in China, with Mengniu as the core brand.

COFCO’s agreement with Mengniu was developed through the World Economic Forum’s Green Value Chain Taskforce.

COFCO has made a commitment to eliminate deforestation from its global soyabean and corn supply chains by 2025 and to meet its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated emissions targets aligned with 1.5°C global climate goals.

COFCO International is the overseas agriculture business platform for China’s largest food and agriculture company, COFCO Corporation, and is active in global grains, oilseeds, sugar and cotton supply chains with assets in 36 countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
