Global agribusiness COFCO International has passed an independent benchmarking process and can now offer deforestation and conversion-free soyabeans in accordance with the European feed industry’s requirements.
A voluntary certification programme, the COFCO International Responsible Agriculture Standard and accompanying verification programme would be used to assess and promote sustainable practices in the company’s supply chains, COFCO said on 28 November.
The standard covers COFCO International policies, responsible industry standards and international principles such as the International Bill of Human Rights.
Created by the European Feed Manufacturers' Federation FEFAC, the programme is run by the United Nation’s and World Trade Organization’s joint agency, the International Trade Centre (ITC).
COFCO International is the overseas agriculture business platform for China’s largest food and agriculture company, COFCO Corp.
The company is involved in the sourcing, storing, processing, trading and transportation of major commodities including grains, oilseeds, sugar, coffee and cotton.
