Global agribusiness COFCO International has agreed to supply Modern Farming and China Shengmu Organic Milk with 1.5M tonnes of sustainable soyabeans between 2025 and 2030.
The two Chinese firms – subsidiaries of leading global milk producer Mengniu Group – manufacture manufacture and distribute dairy products in China, with Mengniu as the core brand.
The agreement would involve the delivery of 1.5M tonnes of deforestation- and conversion-free (DCF) certified soyabeans from Brazil to China between 2025 and 2030, COFCO said on 2 February.
“This agreement reflects China’s growing demand for sustainable commodities,” COFCO International Brazil CEO Luiz Noto said.
On-farm audits would ensure sustainable water management, biodiversity conservation and ethical labour standards in compliance with the COFCO International Responsible Agriculture Standard.
COFCO International has made a commitment to eliminate deforestation from its global soyabean and corn supply chains by 2025 and to meet its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated emissions targets aligned with 1.5°C global climate goals.
