The DeLong Co, a leading US exporter of containerised agricultural products, has increased soyabean export capacity at the Port of Milwaukee following the completion of Phase II of its expansion project at the site, World Grain wrote.
Originally opened in 2023, the Agricultural Maritime Export facility – one of the largest single investments at the port since the 1950s – initially handled primarily distiller’s dried grains (DDGs) with solubles.
Following the recently completed expansion, which included two grain storage silos and more handling equipment, the site increased its capacity to export soyabeans and soyabean meal, the 22 May report said.
Markets for the facility included Europe, North Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East via the Great Lakes-St Lawrence Seaway, while barges could be loaded year-round and connected via the Illinois and Mississippi rivers to Gulf export terminals, World Grain wrote.
The expansion was supported by a US$9.3M grant from the US Department of Transportation.
Headquartered in Clinton, Wisconsin, the DeLong Co is a family-owned agriculture business specialising in grain, agronomy, seed and exports.
It buys, stores and sells corn, soyabeans and wheat from local farmers and ships them to domestic millers and livestock feeders across the USA and worldwide.
