The European Commission (EC) has authorised eight GMOs for food and feed use in the EU for 10 years.

They include four maize varieties (maize MZHG0JG, maize MON 89034 x 1507 x NK603 x DAS-40278-9, maize MON 89034 x 1507 x MON 88017 x 59122 x DAS-40278-9, maize Bt11 x MIR162 x MIR604 x 1507 x 5307 x GA21) and the renewals of soyabean MON 89788 and soyabean A2704-12, cotton LLCotton25, and oilseed rape T45.

“All of these GMOs have gone through a comprehensive authorisation procedure, including a favourable scientific assessment by the European Food Safety Authority,” the EC said on 28 November.

“The authorisations decisions do not cover cultivation and any products produced from these GMOs will be subject to the EU's strict labelling and traceability rules.”
