Europe approves Prairie AquaTech’s non-GM soyabean meal

US animal feed ingredients manufacturer Prairie AquaTech has received EU approval to sell its non-genetically modified soyabean meal as a high performance protein ingredient for aquafeed in Europe.

Prairie AquaTech said on 14 October that EU authorities had “determined ME-PRO can be marketed as a feed material”.

The meal was developed at South Dakota State University using a microbial enhancement process to increase its protein content World Grain wrote.

“With a 70% protein content, ME-PRO provided feed manufacturers and aqua farmers with an exceptional aquafeed ingredient for all species of fish and shrimp,” Prairie AquaTech said. “It also provides manufacturers and aqua farmers with two unique features – reduced phosphorus discharge in water (due to fish waste) and production based on non-genetically modified plant protein.”
