
The European Union (EU) spent US$3.58bn on renewable fuels in 2021 as part of its total expenditure of US$14.5bn on imports of green energy products, which included solar panels and wind turbines.
The combined value of imports of renewable fuels and solar panels was much greater than the corresponding value of EU exports of these goods, which totalled US$1.36bn for both, the EU’s official website Eurostat News reported on 28 November.
Renewable fuel exports totalled US$500M in 2012, increasing to US$1.79bn in 2019. However, this figure dropped to US$1.36bn in 2021.
The EU exported a total of US$6bn of green energy products in 2021.
