Animal feed producer Fanon is set to build a new protein and oil production plant in Croatia, Poslovni dnevnik reported.
Part of the company’s Fanon 2.0 project, the construction of the new facility in Kneginec would be accompanied by transport infrastructure improvements, including the construction of two new railway tracks in the Brezje business zone, the 22 April report said.
The project would increase domestic self-sufficiency, generate added value on domestic raw materials, reduce dependence on imports and further develop sustainable and circular production models, Poslovni dnevnik wrote.
“It is a strategic project that contributes to self-sufficiency in protein and oil production,” Fanon’s CEO Mario Jarnjak was quoted as saying.
“In the long term, we also want to develop alternative logistics models, so that transport is not exclusively based on road transport. In this context, the railway imposes itself as an optimal solution due to lower transport costs, larger capacities and significantly lower environmental impact.”
According to its website, Fanon is the largest animal feed producer in Croatia and operates the country’s second largest oil mill where it processes rapeseed, sunflowerseed and flaxseed. The company’s crude, unrefined oils are suitable for the food industry, animal feed and biodiesel.
The family-owned company’s activities also include grain and oilseed production and chicken farming. It also operates an agricultural cooperative and has its own vehicle fleet.
