Green project development company GreenSinnergy and clean fuels company Axens have signed an agreement to explore sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects in Argentina and across Latin America.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), GreenSinnergy would lead project development, while Axens would be the licensor-of-record for key technologies, including CO₂ capture, hydrogen purification, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and upgrading of the final kerosene and naphtha, Axens said on 12 June.

Initially focusing on the development of the Eco-Refinerías del Sur project in Chubut, Argentina, the partnership would also expand to other SAF initiatives throughout Latin America, Axens added.

The company said the collaboration aimed to identify and secure project partners, ensure regulatory compliance and obtain necessary permits, establish feedstock supply and SAF offtake agreements, and develop comprehensive project cost estimates covering both capital and operational expenditures.

“We are providing GreenSinnergy a complete suite of technologies from CO₂ capture to the production of SAF to remove the technology risk from the equation,” Axens vice president of renewables Frederic Balligand said.

An IFP Energies Nouvelles Group company, the Axens Group provides a range of solutions for the conversion of oil and biomass into cleaner fuels, the production and purification of major petrochemical intermediates, the chemical recycling of plastics, natural gas treatment and conversion options, water treatment and carbon capture.

Germany’s GreenSinnergy specialises in consulting and sustainable business development, with representatives in Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Central America and Spain.
