Indonesian refining and petrochemical company Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) has announced plans to increase its production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) from used cooking oil (UCO).

As part of its Cilacap Green Refinery project, the company said it was aiming to process 6,000 barrels/day (bpd) of UCO to produce HVO and SAF, KPI said on 16 December.

The move to increase production followed KPI’s recent partnership with Indonesian UCO collector and exporter Gapura Mas Lestari (GML) to secure the supply of UCO feedstock for the project.

Cilacap Refinery currently produces HVO derived from refined, bleached and deodorised (RBD) palm oil and SAF produced from RBD palm kernel oil.

KPI said HVO produced at the Cilacap refinery would be used as a blending component in diesel fuel while the SAF would help meet growing demand, in line with Indonesia’s national roadmap for SAF development.

PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (PT KPI) is the refining and petrochemical sub-holding company of PT Pertamina (Persero), that acts as a strategic holding company.
