A group of companies including Finnish renewable fuels producer Neste has established a supply chain for nylon fibre from renewable materials.

As part of the initiative, Neste said it would be supplying Neste RE – a renewable raw material made from bio-based raw materials such as used cooking oil (UCO) – to be used in the production of renewable nylon fibre.

Other partners include sports and outdoor clothing manufacturer Goldwin, Japanese petroleum refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co and advanced materials and chemical manufacturer Toray Industries.

Nylon fibre produced through the project would be used by Goldwin for use in The North Face products in August 2026, Neste said on 4 June.

“This project … shows how the fashion industry’s dependence on fossil resources can … be reduced for high-performance products,” said Maiju Helin, director of Polymers and Chemicals at Neste.

The collaboration was Neste’s second supply chain collaboration for The North Face products, following a similar partnership in July 2024.
