Leading palm oil company SD Guthrie, formerly known as Sime Darby Plantation (SD Plantation), reported a record net profit of MYR2.5bn (US$633.75M) in 2025 – up 16% from the previous year.

The group’s strong full-year performance was driven by better results from its Upstream segment – which contributed to 73% of the group’s profit before interest and tax (PBIT) of MYR3.6bn (US$912.6M) – and its new Industrial Development segment, the company said on 25 February.

“Guthrie’s robust performance in 2025 combines the steady improvement of its core Upstream business and the … potential of its new Industrial Development segment,” said group chairman Dr Nik Norzrul Thani Nik Hassan Thani.

Fresh fruit bunch (FFB) production within the company increased by 1% year-on-year, while average crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (PK) prices improved by 4% and 33% respectively, to MYR4,254 (US$1,078)/tonne and MYR3,219 (US$816)/tonne.

The Industrial Development segment contributed MYR430M (US$109M) to the company’s PBIT in 2025.

After a challenging year when reduced product demand impacted its performance worldwide, the group’s Downstream segment - SD Guthrie International (SDGI) - registered a PBIT of MYR484M (US$122.6M) in 2025.

Despite this, a better performance in SDGI’s Asia Pacific operations partially cushioned the impact from lower volumes.

Looking ahead, group managing director Mohd Haris Mohd Arshad said the company’s efforts to streamline and integrate its value chain into a more unified operating model would enhance synergies, improve efficiencies and allow it to scale up more effectively.

“This will be a key catalyst in accelerating growth in our new businesses, while sustaining momentum in our core operations,” he added.

For the fourth quarter ended 31 December 2025, the group registered a net profit of MYR496M (US$125.73M).

Barring unforeseen circumstances, the group said it expected to deliver a “satisfactory performance” in 2026.

With a network of over 200 plantations and a presence in about 90 countries, SD Guthrie is a leading producer of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO).

Active in upstream and downstream operations, the company produced around 1.9M tonnes of CSPO in 2023, according to its website.

Its downstream arm, SD Guthrie International, produces a range of oils and fats products.
