Netherlands-based sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) company SkyNRG has started construction of its first SAF plant in the Netherlands.
Located at the Delfzijl chemical park in the north of the country, the DSL-01 production facility would produce 100,000 tonnes/year of SAF, once operational, and 35,000 tonnes of sustainable by-products including biobased propane, butane and naphtha, the company said on 12 February.
Start-up is expected in mid-2028.
SkyNRG said the plant would use the hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) pathway, enabled by Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology.
With all permits approved and project and financing agreements completed, the start of construction concluded a seven-year development period, the company said.
“Reaching this important milestone in the development of our DSL-01 facility marks an important step in our transition to becoming an owner and operator of SAF production capacity,” said Maarten van Dijk, SkyNRG CEO & co-founder.
KLM – Royal Dutch Airlines would be the primary off-taker for SAF produced at the facility, the company said.
