Ukrainian sunflowerseed prices have reached their highest level in three years, according to a report by APK-Inform.

In the week before the 14 October report, sunflowerseed prices reached 22,500-24,500 UAH/tonne (US$546-US$594/tonne) CPT, APK-Inform said.

“The companies reported that oilseed supply slightly increased, but still remained insufficient,” APK-Inform analysts said.

“Those who needed urgent replenishment of stocks to fulfil contractual obligations for oilseeds raised the prices more actively (up to +1,000 UAH (US$24.25)/tonne) compared to the week before and were ready to pay extra for large volumes and oil content.”

The growth of raw material prices was still supported by increasing sunflower oil prices on the export market, APK-Inform said.

However, increasing numbers of crushing companies reported that the profitability of processing was low or almost non-existent.

In the week prior to the report, demand prices for sunflower oil in the ports of Ukraine increased by US$20-US$30/tonne and reached the highest level since the end of January 2023 – US$1,020-US$1,025/tonne CPT port.

The historical price maximum for sunflower in Ukraine was recorded in March 2021 at 25,500-27,400 UAH (US$618-US$664)/tonne CPT.
