Process technology specialist Topsoe has been selected to provide technology at US biofuels producer Santa Maria Renewable Resources (SMRR)’s plant in East Texas, USA.

Scheduled to start up in 2026, Santa Maria’s plant would produce 3,000 barrels/day of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) once operational, Topsoe said on 28 November.

Topsoe said it would be supplying SMRR with its HydroFlex and H2bridge technologies to produce renewable fuels at the plant.

“Our shared commitment to support the renewable fuels market makes this collaboration [with SMRR] a natural fit,” Topsoe managing director for the Americas Henrik Rasmussen said.

Designed for the production of renewable jet fuel and diesel, Topsoe said its HydroFlex technology could be used in both grassroots units and revamps for co-processing or stand-alone applications.

Headquartered in Denmark, Topsoe is a developer and supplier of decarbonisation technology, catalysts, and services for the energy transition sector.

SMRR said it had also partnered with Texas-based engineering firm Chemex Global, a Shaw Group company, which would work on the front-end engineering design for the proposed facility.
