Global multi-energy company TotalEnergies has announced plans to double production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its Grandpuits site in France.
The increase would bring the Normandy site’s annual production capacity to 285,000 tonnes – almost double the capacity recorded in 2020, the company said on 7 June.
“The zero-crude platform at Grandpuits will be a major French site for the production of sustainable aviation fuel, which is the most effective solution for immediately cutting CO2 emissions from air transport. These new projects further strengthen the site’s conversion toward sustainability, decarbonisation and the circular economy,” Bernard Pinatel, TotalEnergies president, Refining & Chemicals, said.
The new investment came against a backdrop of the EU’s gradual increase in mandated minimum SAF shares, which had been set at 6% for 2030, the company said.
Active in more than 130 countries, TotalEnergies produces and markets energy sources, including oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables and electricity.
