The UK Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has initiated anti-dumping and countervailing investigations into imports of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) from the USA.

Initiated on 17 March, the investigations followed an application from UK biodiesel producers, including the Renewable Transport Fuel Association (RFA), British fuel distributor Greenergy, biodiesel producer Argent Energy and vegetable oil recycling company Olleco, Biomass Magazine reported on 18 March.

In their application, the stakeholders said the market had changed since a previous review in 2022 and claimed recent evidence suggested the price cap had narrowed and HVO could now be competing directly with UK-produced biodiesel.

Covering a period from 1 January 2024-31 December 2024, the investigations would establish if imports of HVO sold at unfairly low prices or being subsidised were impacting UK industry, the TRA said.

Interested parties had been asked to register their interest in the investigation through the Trade Remedies Service by 1 April 2025, the TRA said.
