US coconut water brand Vita Coco has launched a new haircare range featuring products containing coconut oil and water.

The company said the new range, comprising Nourish, Repair and Scalp lines, was made from 95% natural ingredients.

Coconut water was a key ingredient in the Nourish range of shampoos and conditioners while the conditioner and serum in the Repair range contained coconut oil, Vita Coco said.

On its website, Vita Coco said coconut oil could penetrate the hair cuticle and enrich it with lauric acid, helping to restore and strengthen its protein structure and prevent damage to the cuticle, which could lead to split ends and breakage.

Coconut oil also helped to retain hair moisture and its antimicrobial properties could help prevent dandruff, which is caused by an overgrowth of fungus or yeast on the scalp, according to Vita Coco.

Established in 2005, Vita Coco said it started sourcing its coconuts from one farm in Brazil, but now worked with farmers around the world in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
