Leading agricultural network firm Viterra was the leading exporter of agricultural commodities to Argentina for the third consecutive season at the end of the 2023/24 marketing year, World Grain reported on 20 May citing Rosario Grain Exchange data.

Based on Foreign Sales Declarations (DJVE) records, the exchange said the top 10 companies in terms of volume were:

  • Viterra – 13.55M tonnes
  • Cargill – 11.37M tonnes
  • COFCO – 10.35M tonnes
  • Bunge Global SA – 8.72M tonnes
  • AGD – 8.65M tonnes
  • Louis Dreyfus Co – 8.57M tonnes
  • ADM – 8.04M tonnes
  • ACA – 5.65M tonnes
  • Molinos Agro – 5.15M tonnes
  • CHS Inc – 1.37M tonnes

Of the 89.82M tonnes of exports for the main agricultural crops during the 2023/24 cycle ending in March, the top three companies accounted for nearly 39%, the exchange said.

Soyabean exports totalled 40.88M tonnes, 29% above the average for the past three seasons, followed by corn with 37.86M tonnes, 16% above the three-year average.

At 3.62M tonnes, wheat exports declined sharply and were 61% lower compared to the previous cycle and 70% down compared to the average for the last three seasons.

Barley exports totalled 3.83M tonnes, on par with the previous year, while sunflower showed a more marked improvement at 2.37M tonnes. Sorghum registered a significant rebound, reaching 1.26M tonnes, although remaining below the three-year average.

By commodity, the top exporters were:

  • Soyabeans: Viterra – 8.46M tonnes
  • Corn: ADM – 6.97M tonnes
  • Wheat: Bunge – 760,000 tonnes
  • Barley – Cerveceria y Malteria Quilmes: 670,000 tonnes
  • Sunflower: Viterra – 990,000 tonnes
  • Sorghum: ACA – 320,000 tonnes

According to its website, Viterra operates in 39 countries and is active in 130 and handles over 125M tonnes/year of agricultural products, including grains, oilseeds, pulses, rice, sugar and vegetable oil, as well as a range of animal feed products. It has a network of storage and handling facilities in key growing regions and 29 port terminals in 10 key exporting nations.
