Vitol Bunkers, part of global energy and commodities company Vitol, has launched a new FuelEU compliant co-processed Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) for the marine sector.

Produced at Vitol’s refinery in Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the bunker fuel would be marketed globally by Vitol Bunkers, the company said on 29 April.

Certified under the ISCC-EU scheme, Vitol said the carbon intensity of the fuel was in line with used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME) and delivered a 70%+ reduction in greenhouse gas intensity (GHGi) compared to fossil-based alternatives.

‘With the recent introduction of FuelEU Maritime, we are excited to expand our range of compliant fuels … adding co-processed VLSFO to our current range of biofuel blends up to B100,” Vitol head of energy transition for shipping Ian Butler said.

Operating across major shipping and trading locations, Vitol Bunkers offers bunkering services at key hubs from Australia, China, Singapore and the Arab Gulf, to Europe, South Africa, the Caribbean and the USA.
