Storage and handling service provider Vopak Horizon Fujairah has successfully completed its first certified bio-bunkering operations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Biofuels International wrote.

The supply of B24 bunker fuel - a blend of 24% fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) with very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) – was certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) scheme, the 11 March report said.

“This operation represents a significant step in the decarbonisation of the supply chain,” Vopak Horizon Fujairah general manager Law Say Huat was quoted as saying.

Vopak Horizon Fujairah is a joint venture between leading independent tank storage company Royal Vopak, the UAE’s Horizon Terminals, the government of UAE state Fujairah and Kuwait’s Independent Petroleum Group. It handles a range of petroleum products and also handles ethanol on request.

To date, the company has 32 terminals within its global network ISCC certified to store sustainable products like sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other biofuels and feedstocks.

Located at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz on the eastern side of the UAE outside the Persian Gulf, Vopak Horizon Fujairah stores and handles petroleum products with a storage capacity of about 2.1Mm³.
